Alignment to Provincial, Territorial, and National Pathway

Grassroots Standards

GUIDING PRINCIPLES:

Grassroots Programs should be appropriately structured for the age and stage of the participating players and allow for the opportunity for multi-sport participation, activity sampling, and life balance.

  • Grassroots Matches should be played on fields, with goals and balls, and following a match day format that is developmentally appropriate for the participating players.
  • Coaches have the greatest impact on the experience of players and every child deserves a properly qualified coach.
  • Children register to play soccer, not to watch others play or spend time traveling. Teams should strive for fair playing time and limit travel time as much as possible.
  • Talent Identification and selection should be delayed as long as possible to provide as many players as possible with the best training environment available.
  • Match results should not be the focus of grassroots soccer as this restricts player development and negatively impacts the player experience.

Player Pathway

The Canada Soccer Player Pathway is a national framework based on Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) principles, guiding individuals from grassroots, recreational play to high-performance levels with the goal of fostering lifelong participation in soccer. It focuses on fun, skill-building, and holistic player development, emphasizing age-appropriate training and competition to create confident, resilient athletes and well-rounded individuals. The pathway includes provincial and national academies and training environments, with the integration of the Canadian Premier League providing a domestic professional platform for emerging talent.

Key aspects of the Canada Soccer Player Pathway:

  • Long-Term Player Development (LTPD):The core philosophy, aiming to optimize player growth through age-appropriate activities, balancing fun with development.
  • Lifelong Participation:Encourages players of all ages, genders, and abilities to engage with soccer for life.
  • Holistic Development:Develops not only soccer skills but also life skills, mental health, and personal well-being to create resilient individuals.
  • Grassroots to Elite Levels:Provides a comprehensive system from introductory play to advanced training environments like provincial academies and national EXCEL programs.
  • Focus on Fun:Emphasizes engaging and fun experiences, especially for children, to promote enjoyment and a love for the game.
  • Talent Identification:Includes processes and opportunities for talented players to be identified and progress to higher levels of play.
  • Community & Support:Relies on a supportive network of coaches, parents, officials, and volunteers to create a positive learning environment.
  • Integration of Professional Play:The Canadian Premier League offers a professional environment for young talents to compete and develop within Canada's domestic structure.

How it works:The Player Pathway serves as a roadmap, providing a structured approach to player development that aligns with different stages of a player's physical and mental growth. It encourages a player-centered approach, ensuring that the training, competition, and coaching are tailored to the individual's needs at each specific stage of their development.

Soccer has two seasons: 1) Fall/Winter and 2) Summer.

Fall/Winter begins mid October and ends by May.

Summer begins mid-May and ends by October.

Fall/Winter season is more expensive than the Spring/Summer due to the cost of the indoor facilities. There is a high demand for indoor facilities but not enough supply and thus, the hourly rate to rent is high.

We offer one free practice session to all new members that would like to give our club a try. We also offer 1 month try out sessions at a cost.

During the summer months, our club offers soccer camps which are also a great experience for those new to soccer to try out the sport.

We are a Toronto club, serving the Etobicoke/Mississauga East community. Yes, majority of our club members are Eastern/Central European but that is mainly due to our club's physical location/area where a large Eastern European community resides. However, we welcome both boys and girls from all backgrounds and level of skill. We do not discriminate. Please review our EDI Policy in tab: Key Documents.

Fact - We chose our club's name because in many Eastern European languages it is associated with the words "to celebrate/celebration" - celebrating the deep rooted European soccer roots and technique among a variety of cultures and backgrounds.

We are committed to providing an enjoyable soccer experience for all participants with focus on long-term player development.

Refunds will not be given for practices canceled due to weather or medical emergencies. We will try and compensate for missed practices by finding alternate dates. During summer, we offer our seasonal members camp days to accommodate missed practices and create more opportunities for fun activities and team camaraderie. For all other information, please refer to our Refund Policy.

Camp days are 3-4 hour sessions, usually on a Sunday during the summer season. It consists of various fun stations and activities in the form of play while also learning about foot skills, body movement, communication, collaboration, and most of all how to play and have fun. Camp days are a great opportunity for those who are new to soccer to get a feel for the sport, develop friendships with our club players, and have fun.

When practices are canceled, it is usually due to a weather event. The club's administrator watches the weather network and notifies all parents whose children are scheduled to practice on that day by 4pm EST. Notifications are sent to Club's WhatsApp Announcements channel.

Summer practices will only be cancelled due to a thunderstorm, lightning, or temperatures below 10C are expected. This is because majority of our club members are under the age of 10.

Indoor practices will only be cancelled if the indoor facility is under maintenance or an unexpected event has occurred. Club will find alternate training locations to accommodate cancelled practices.

As a club, we must follow Ontario Soccer Return to Play Guidelines and local COVID protocols.

As per OSA, members who participate in sport and are under the age of 18 are not required to provide proof of vaccination. However, this protocol may differ across each indoor sports facility. Currently, we meet these protocols for both our indoor training and league facilities.

During the summer season, our club practices on outdoor grass soccer fields maintained by City of Toronto Parks, City of Mississauga Parks, and/or Toronto School District School Board.

All fields are easily accessible and close to car parking. Our fields are located within 10km of our club's hub - Centennial Park, Etobicoke ensuring 90% of our club members can easily commute to training locations. Outdoor facilities do not always have restrooms or bleachers, but spectators in those cases bring their own chairs.

During the winter season, we follow the same location distance marker - where we have indoor gym and turf facilities within 10km from Centennial Park, Etobicoke. Indoor facilities have accessible restrooms and bleachers for spectators.

Irrespective of location, the Club provides all soccer equipment and ensures the right gear, nets, and balls are appropriate for the age group being coached.
